Publication Ethics

The Indonesian Journal of Education and Science is committed to upholding high standards of ethical behavior in the publication of articles. We expect all parties involved—authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—to adhere to ethical practices. The guidelines below are in place to ensure the integrity of our publication process.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

  1. Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original and free from plagiarism. Any work or words from other sources must be properly cited or quoted.
  2. Data Accuracy and Integrity: Authors should present accurate data and research results. Fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation is unethical and unacceptable.
  3. Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of influential work is required. Authors should credit all relevant literature that has informed their research.
  4. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently or publish multiple articles based on the same research data without significant contributions.
  5. Authorship Criteria: All individuals listed as authors should have significantly contributed to the research. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors agree with the final version of the manuscript and its submission.
  6. Conflict of Interest: Authors should disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may affect the research or interpretation of findings.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

  1. Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and refrain from discussing them with others or disclosing information from the review process.
  2. Objectivity and Fairness: Reviews should be conducted objectively, without personal criticism or bias. Reviewers are encouraged to provide constructive feedback to help authors improve their manuscripts.
  3. Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that the authors have not cited, as well as any similarity or overlap with other published work.
  4. Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest with the authors or related to the research content and recuse themselves if they feel unable to provide an unbiased review.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

  1. Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for the final decision on article acceptance or rejection, based on the work’s importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal.
  2. Fair Play: Editors should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to the authors' race, gender, religious belief, or political philosophy.
  3. Confidentiality: Editors must ensure the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, disclosing information only to relevant parties involved in the publication process.
  4. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research without the authors' explicit consent.

Publisher’s Responsibilities

  1. The publisher works closely with editors to ensure high ethical standards are upheld throughout the publishing process.
  2. The publisher supports the editorial decisions, providing necessary resources to enforce ethics policies and respond to any potential misconduct.

Handling of Ethical Misconduct

  1. Allegations of Misconduct: The journal takes ethical misconduct seriously. Allegations of misconduct, including plagiarism, data falsification, or manipulation, will be investigated thoroughly.
  2. Correction and Retraction: If ethical misconduct is confirmed, the journal will take appropriate action, which may include issuing a correction, retraction, or apology. Retractions will be clearly marked, and reasons for the retraction will be provided to ensure transparency.
  3. Right to Respond: Authors accused of misconduct have the right to respond to allegations and present their perspective before final decisions are made.
